Another Dunwoody-area waterline repair begins as Dunwoody Knoll project enters second phase

DeKalb County has announced the Aug. 10 launch of the Winters Chapel Water Main Replacement Project, as the Dunwoody Knoll Waterline project enters the second phase.

According to a release from the county, crews will replace 3,100 linear feet of aging pipelines, which is expected to last approximately four months, barring any weather delays.

Normal construction hours will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding major holidays. An increase in construction-related noise and traffic during work hours should be expected.

County officials are holding a virtual community meeting on July 28 at 6:30 for those who want to learn more about the project.

Meanwhile, county officials announced that the second phase of the Dunwoody Knoll Water Main Replacement Project will begin July 27.

DeKalb County is under a consent decree with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) that formalizes implementation of sanitary sewer system programs and improvements. In order to finance these repairs, estimated at more than $4 billion, DeKalb County residents will see a 10 percent increase in their bills each year for the next 10 years.

The county took a data-driven approach to prioritize the order of repair/replacement, and the $6.9 million Dunwoody Knoll project, according to officials, was not scheduled until 2028. However, because of the frequency of water main breaks, 49 from 1989 to 2024, the project was moved up.

The Renee Group is the authorized contractor for this phase of work, officials said.

County officials are inviting residents to attend a virtual meeting about the second phase of the project on July 21 at 6:30 p.m.
