Leadership Georgia names Class of 2027, including 13 Atlanta residents
Thirteen Atlanta residents are among the 63 people chosen for Leadership Georgia’s Class of 2027, which the statewide program announced Mon., Oct. 19.
The organization selected the class from several hundred applicants.
Members will spend the coming year in a program built around the issues facing both Georgia’s cities and its rural communities. Leadership Georgia, an affiliate of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, was founded in 1971. More than 5,000 people have gone through the program since then, including elected officials, business owners, and nonprofit leaders.
Who made the cut from metro Atlanta
The Atlanta group includes Christopher Blakely, Joe Carlos, Eshé Collins, Tunisia Cornelius, Gloria Cox, Caroline Earle, Damon Elmore, Emily Evert, Donald Kirkland, Brian Monahan, Yendelela Neely, Tory Powell, and Taos Wynn.
Outside the city limits, metro participants include Jacqueline Rosenthal of Brookhaven, Joel Wiggins of Decatur, Misty Fernandez of Roswell, Casey Tanner of Marietta, Jonathan Wu of Norcross, and Kim Hartsock of Suwanee.
A class built to mix city and country
Leadership Georgia says it looks for emerging leaders “from every corner of the state.” The goal, according to the organization, is for participants to build a shared understanding of the state’s problems and of the solutions communities have put in place.
The program is volunteer-run and governed by a board of trustees. Scott Chastain of Thomasville will serve as president for the 2027 class, which will work under the theme “Look Beyond. Lead Here.”
The new class joins an alumni base that dates to the program’s first graduating class in 1972. More information is available at leadershipgeorgia.com.
