Rough Draft Atlanta is launching a podcast

Rough Draft Atlanta is launching its first podcast. “From the Paper to the Pod,” hosted by Summer Evans, is a behind-the-scenes look at the stories that appear in print, online, and in our daily newsletters.

The show is available on all podcast platforms, including YouTube, Apple, and Spotify.

In 30-minute episodes, Evans will speak with Rough Draft journalists and editors about what drives their work, and what gets cut from stories during the editing process.

The first pod drops on Friday, Aug. 21, and includes a conversation with Editor-in-Chief (EIC) Beth McKibben, helping listeners understand an EIC’s role at a newsroom like Rough Draft Atlanta. McKibben will also go deeper into what prompted our recent story on the revival of Atlanta Chinatown in Chamblee.

Evans then interviews Executive Editor Collin Kelley and reporter Logan C. Ritchie about the recent push for a historic designation on a street in Ansley Park that has pitted neighbor against neighbor in the leafy enclave of Atlanta.

Evans talks next with Managing Editor Cathy Cobbs about her story on a metro Atlanta 4-year-old awaiting a heart transplant and his wish to see “Toy Story 5” at a local movie theater.

Finally, Associate Editor and Film Critic Sammie Purcell breaks down what she’s watching, listening to, and anticipating in movie theaters later this year. It’s a good way to bring sanity to the torrent of streaming content.

Why now?

For years, Rough Draft Atlanta journalists and executives have appeared as guests on local and national podcasts, but “From the Paper to the Pod” is our first original production.
