Section of Johnson Ferry Road closed after gas main hit, 100 residences evacuated
More than 100 homes have been evacuated in Sandy Springs after a gas main hit around 2 p.m. on Oct. 7.
WSB-TV has reported that Johnson Ferry Road is closed from Sandy Springs Circle to Bonnie Lane/Wright Road because of the incident.
“Atlanta Gas Light’s top value is the safety of our customers and the communities we serve,” according to the announcement by the utility company. “This afternoon, a third-party performing work unrelated to Atlanta Gas Light damaged our gas line on Johnson Ferry Road in Sandy Springs. Atlanta Gas Light personnel responded and are working to safely repair the damage as quickly as possible.”

Residents have been encouraged to avoid the area and not attempt to drive through the closure near City Springs. The department’s announcement just before 2 p.m. encourages the public to share the information and monitor official updates for further information.
The Sandy Springs Police Department’s announcement says motorists and pedestrians should allow first responders room to work and follow instructions if emergency personnel order an evacuation.
The gas main at Johnson Ferry Road and Sandy Springs Circle is located near Fire Station 2 and the City Springs district.
