Tucker may expand boundaries after Nov. 3 vote

Some residents of the Northlake neighborhood in unincorporated DeKalb County will vote to become part of the City Tucker in the Nov. 3 election. 

People living in the proposed annexation area between Northlake Parkway and LaVista Road will vote on Senate Bill 622, which aims to add the area to Tucker’s boundaries and jurisdiction. The bill is sponsored by State Senate Democrats Tonya Anderson, Sally Harrell, Kim Jackson, Elena Parent, and Karla Drenner. 

If more than half of voters approve the measure, the area of Northlake that includes Avana City North, Atlas LaVista Hills, and Providence of Northlake will become part of Tucker. The City of Tucker will then take over municipal services for the area, including street paving, sidewalk repair, park planning, facility investment, and the enforcement of property-maintenance codes on apartments.

Residents would also be able to vote in City of Tucker elections, and the neighborhood would be integrated into Tucker’s transportation plan. 

The proposed area is home to several businesses, including Marlow’s Tavern, a portion of the former Northlake Mall building, and some hotel chains.

If the vote does not pass, the area will remain part of unincorporated DeKalb County.

Voters registered within the annexation area will vote on the measure through Election Day on Nov. 3. Early voting is currently underway and ends on Oct. 30.
