UPDATE: Man dies in stabbing near Beltline Kroger, APD identifies suspect
Atlanta Police said a 29-year-old man has died after being stabbed on the Atlanta Beltline on Sunday afternoon.
According to APD Chief Darin Schierbaum, the incident took place at 725 Ponce de Leon Avenue, which is the address for the Beltline Kroger supermarket.
Schierbaum said Zone 6 officers and the APD Path Force responded to the scene at 4:01 p.m. and located the victim. He was rushed to Grady Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, the chief said.
The suspect detained by officers has been identified as Jonathan Hamby, a 54-year-old white male. The knife used in the attack was also recovered by officers, Scheirbaum said.
The chief said the incident appears to have stemmed from an argument beteween the suspect and victim.
“We encourage everyone to continue using the Beltline and to report any suspicious activity,” Schierbaum said.
WSB-TV reports that the suspect has 30 previous arrests and was on supervised release when the Beltline incident occurred.
